reaction vs. obedience

“So be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.” – Deut. 5: 32-33

I’ve watched so many people live their lives constantly in reaction to something or someone. It goes like this:

“If they wouldn’t do this, then I wouldn’t be _______”

“I’m going to do ______ because __________ doesn’t like it.”

“_________ is doing this, so I should too.”

What a miserable way to live life. Instead of looking around at what everyone else is doing and reacting to it, why don’t we take a look at what God is telling us to do and live it out. Respond to one voice instead of reacting to everyone around you. Let go of the people who “mess with your mind.” Act in obedience to God’s truth, not on your emotional response.

Is this a reactionary post? Oh, gracious. I hope not.

  1. I agree. Josh and I were talking about this last night, that we respond this way in our marraige sometimes. “If he were more like that, then I would be like this.” When in reality my responsibility is to be like that no matter what he does.
